Sayre employees host fund raiser for BV historical landmark

March 22, 2007. Buena Vista, VA-- Cathy Graybill, inventory clerk for Sayre Enterprises, led a 3 day fund raising event to raise money to donate to the "Colored School". All employees came together, hosting events such as breakfasts, silent auctions and raffles.

A special thanks to Janet Carter, Thelma Ogden, Kay King, Allison Gibson and Maddie Green for all of the hard work they put into this event.

The BV Colored School Historical Society is a group of concerned citizens who have formed to restore and preserve the building that was once a one room schoolhouse for African-American children in Buena Vista, VA.

The segregated school never had an official name. In school board minutes, the school was always referred to as the "Colored School". In keeping with the accuracy of the school's history, the majority of the membership voted to retain its original name.
